Manage Xref

Advantage
  1. Can use one xref in many drawings
  2. Can be synchronized, when edit Xref, the changes appear in all places
  3. Can reduce the size of drawing files because the drawing database is stored in the original drawing only
Edit
Xopen: open the xref in a separate window

Reference drawing - Right-click - Open

Refedit: edit the xref in place

The main roof xref is being edited in-place
The other objects in the drawing are faded, enables to see the exact geometry included in the xref
The amount of fading is controlled by the value of the XFADECTL (0~90)

A temporary panel is displayed on the ribbon while editing an external reference in-place

XBind

  1. Convert an xref to a local block definition in the host drawing
  2. The geometry and its dependent named objects, such as blocks, layers, dimension styles, and text styles, are added to the host drawing
XBind Dialog box

Select a named object and add it to the list of definitions to bind

XLoadCtl System Variable
0: Demand-loading is turned off and the entire drawing is loaded
1: Demand-loading is turned on and reference drawings are kept open and locked
2: Demand-loading is on and copies of referenced drawings are opened and locked
2 is the default setting

Unreconciled Layers Notification

When a new layer has been added to an xref, the Unreconciled Layer Notification appear in the status bar tray

Clip Xref
Need to reference only a part of the drawing or to use some of the data of the referenced drawing

Create a clipping boundary to clip out the geometry you do not need to see

All objects outside the boundary are removed from the display
